I grew up spending every minute outside: climbing trees, swimming in lakes, and hiking. As I entered high school, I began to realize the outdoors and nature were under attack from a myriad of forces. Pesticides, greenhouse emissions, plastic pollution, manure runoff, habitat loss – the list goes on and on. It became apparent that the environment was a partisan issue; most Democrats voted to protect our ecosystems while republicans despised environmental regulations and protections.
The environment should not be a partisan issue; when we destroy our planet we are really killing ourselves. Throughout high school I’ve joined the Sierra Club, the Sunrise Movement, and the Youth Conservation Congress to bring awareness to the abysmal treatment of our planet and support progressive and democratic candidates who care about all of our futures and the prosperity of our planet. – Zach
